American Made: Cruise in Control!

Like the title indicates I saw American Made, a Tom Cruise Movie last night. And man did it manage to surprise me. Let me says this first. American Made is a worthy watch anywhere! See it! You will not regret. Now, to the review, the movie stars Tom Cruise. No other character is paid any attention. All the spotlight is on him! And boy does he pull it off! It is a showcase of Tom Cruise a movie star's acting prowess and he shows it off real nice. The story is about Barry Seal, I did no who the hell was Barry Seal, a pilot who is hired by both the Medellin Cartel and CIA! The movie starts off by CIA appointing Barry to take pictures of the Soviets for their hidden purposes. While he is working for the CIA, he comes into contact with Mr Escobar and company. Hence, becomes the guy who always delivers. The movie uses a kind of documentary look, it feels like the movie is being recorded on a handheld camcorder and I think the look worked for the movie. Yes, it gave the movie a che...

What is wrong with Smartphones?

Smartphones were meant to be your pocket computer which could also make phone calls. And at first, it seemed as if that phones were truly becoming your pocket computer. However, in recent times, smartphones are losing their usability. These phones were supposed to be tools for you to get work done. That no longer is the case in recent times. Flagship smartphones nowadays tend to basic features which made them so smart. Flagship smartphones today tend to lack the most basic port! A headphone jack! Phone manufacturers no longer add useful features to the product but tend to bloat them with useless design flaws. Take the iPhone x, for example, it has a horrible notch at the top. The sole purpose of this notch is to differentiate the phone from the competition. It adds no improvement in functionality to the phone. All it does is worsen your media consumption experience. Furthermore, Operating systems for these devices are getting bloated and resource hungry day by day. We need octa and de...

Kingsman: The worthy sequel?

Yesterday, I finally got the chance to see Kingsman : the golden circle. It is what a summer flick should be! Filled with explosion and fight scenes, the sequel even though lacks the surprise of the first one is a deserving one!   The movie begins with Egsy encountering an old friend Charlie. Who is now a terminator and action commencing from the word go ! The fight scene in the Taxi was a little jarring and hard to keep up with, but it was beautiful. The Golden Circle makes no sense, yet it is fun. The plot is dead simple. Poppy played underwhelmingly by Juliana Moore runs a drug monopoly and wants to legalize drugs, hence she poisons all the drug addicts and holds them hostage until her demands are met. Our leads must stop her to save the world.   The start of the movie was shaky, Poppy wipes the Kingsman and in the process, kills of Roxie, the friend-zoned girl, and with her goes away my expectations of seeing a girl kicking ass in the Kingsman movie. Harry...

Goodbye Chrome

I have been looking for a way to ditch the resource hungry Chrome and switch to a new browser. So far Edge has been unstable, Opera somehow still exists and Brave is just meh. Hence, my hype for the new Firefox dubbed Firefox Quantum!   Even though I was all hyped up for Firefox, I managed to keep my expectations minimum, coming into Firefox. And I love it! Firefox has always been customizable , but, Quantum takes it to a new level! You can change everything. The address bar, themes and even the URL bar. Not only that the browser also feels snappier and is actually fast. It manages to beat chrome almost every time and not only that the browser also consumes significantly fewer resources. Better at less this has to be a dream. Only it is not this Browser is a power users dream come true. It has a plethora of features. The one which I most like is the ability to open a web page on your phone to your PC, by simply tapping the "Send to Device". Add to that the integr...

The big sick: I can relate

The big sick is a movie about a Pakistani man falling in love with an American woman. It is based on a true story, from the life events of Kumail Nanjiani. To me, it is one of the best movies of the year! The premise of the story is by no means supposed to be funny, but the movie is surprisingly funny! You think that the movie will be melodramatic, but again to my surprise, the movie is really lifelike. None of the actors tries to overact or go over the top. The movie is refreshing because of its lifelike nature. Kumail Nanjiani is a terrific actor and portrays himself to perfection. I really like his family, because it is exactly like mine. But what really elevates the story is the second act. When Emily gets sick and Kumail has to spend a ton of time with her family. Emily's parents were terrific and funny, especially Holy Hunter! She hates Kumail at first and the way they end up liking each other is terrific. The comedy club scene where Kumail is insulted for being a Paki...

Atomic Boredom

Atomic Blonde stars Charlize Theron and is a movie directed by David Leich. This man helped to bring John Wick to the big screen. I went into the movie expecting Atomic Blonde to be the female version of John Wick. That was not the case. Atomic blonde is boring the story is messy and the direction is poor. The time hops between the present and the past is not at all smooth. The story begins with Charlize Theron in a debriefing room telling us the story of the snoozefest that is Atomic blonde! The movie is boring to the extent that I had paused and stopped watching the movie around the hour mark. In an hour all we see is Charlize enter east Berlin to retrieve the list. Here she meets a shady character called Percival and gets into bed with Delphine portrayed by Sophia Boutella. Believe me, that is all that happens in one hour of this movie! I got my self to finish the movie later and the pace does pick up at the end, but it is not enough! Actors like Charlize Theron, James McAvo...

Pirates of the Caribbean: Geekman's Tale

The new Pirates movie is not necessarily new. It has been out for like 5 months, right? So a spoiler review should not trigger the internet right? Okay, let's talk about the new Pirates movie! Dead men tell no tales. It is the 5th movie in the Pirates franchise. And to my grief is another good movie butchered by the critics upon arrival! Critics are the reason I did not go to the Cinema to enjoy this movie! Now that I have seen the movie, its time for a review! The last Pirates movie was straight up bad. It lacked Mr And Mrs Turner. The 5th instalment brings them back. And they have a son now. The story revolves around Henry Turner trying to find the Trident of Poseidon to cure his father's curse. Barbosa's daughter who is unknown to the fact that Barbosa is her father is also in pursuit of the Poseidon stone. Henry requires Jack's services and hence they all meet to go on this grand adventure! The story is simple and has heart, unlike the last movie. The characters ...

How is the falls creator in winter?

Windows 10 falls creator update has been out for a while now. And even though I had written a positive review raving about its new features, with time I started to notice it's quirks. Hence I am here today talking to you about the long-term review of the falls creator update. As soon as the honeymoon period wore off, I just stopped using those new features. I cannot even remember when was the last time I had used the people hub. One could say that it lacks third-party app support that is not attracting users to this feature. But I will say that one truly does not need a people hub. Next in the feature which I have never used is the story remix feature. Now I would blame that on my usage. I am not a creative person who shoots plenty of photos and videos. So it is normal for me not to use it. And the continue on PC feature, to me is useless without a mobile platform which natively supports it. Falls creator update also brought with it performance dips. This dips in performanc...

I have this urge to use Ubuntu

I have been a Windows user forever. I have used almost every version of Windows since, Windows XP. But, now I feel that the core experience of Windows has been stale since XP. We still need the start menu, the file Explorer is basically the same with little to no change. The icons are now modernised, but the base is still the same. New Apps like photos and Groove did bring a breath of fresh air in the Windows ecosystem, but it wore off quite quickly.  Now I find myself craving for new. Since Apple hardware is overpriced, I only have one way quench my thirst for change. Linux, while Linux is not the most popular operating systems in the world. Its distros look quite compelling and attract me. Ubuntu is leading the charge, they are the biggest among the distros. One could say that Ubuntu is the Windows of Linux distros. Hence, it should be stable right?  Who knows maybe one of these days Windows might do something, which might push me over the edge and bring chang...

Stranger Things 2 Review

The Duffer Brothers are back with another dose of nostalgia for us. Only this time they have gotten better. Stranger Things season 2 is a major improvement over the previous season! And I love it! But, it is not perfect. That is why I have written this review. Let's talk about the good first and there is plenty of it. The strongest point of the whole show is the cast, and it is showcased to its best. Everybody brought their A game to the game and it showed. Even the new Characters like Mad Max and Bob were terrific! I would have loved to see more of Bob. He was the light in the dark Byers household. He was a proper geek and a delightful person. He is my the favourite character on the show. Old favourites like Hopper are also here and better than ever. I loved how Hopper goes all in on Indiana Jones while investigating. I used to think of Will as the weak link among the child actors, but he proved me wrong. Max is a great addition to the AV gang and adds more girl po...

The Best Android Browser

I like everyone used to use chrome on my phone. Well because it is preloaded on to my phone and I also used chrome on my PC. So there was no reason to think otherwise, right? Well, I used to do that before I got into tech. When I was an uninformed user. But you do not need to remain uninformed, as I am here to help you decide which browser is the best for you! Now, if you are heavily invested in the Google ecosystem. then go on keep on using Chrome. By no means is it a bad browser. It is just a tad bit resource intensive. However, if you are open to the possibility of change, then here is the best browser for Android according to me. Brave:   Brave is founded by the co-founder of Firefox. The browser, however, is based on chromium and the blink engine. What this means is that this browser is wicked fast. It looks and feels exactly like Chrome. So Chrome users should feel right at home. But, it lacks the nags of Chrome. For example, it consumes a lot less b...

Flagships no longer required?

The last time I used a flagship phone, was way back in 2013 and it was the Galaxy S4. The Exynos variant to be exact, back in 2013 Exynos was not cool. It was miles behind its Snapdragon counterpart and it was visible. My experience with the S4 was horrible. So horrible, that in fact, I haven't had the courage to purchase another Flagship since then on. After that, I switched boat and jumped to the WindowsPhone clad. My first taste of WindowsPhone was from a Lumia 520. The cheapest WindowsPhone! But, the performance at times was better than my less than a year old flagship Galaxy. WindowsPhone was fluid even on extreme budget hardware. Later on, I upgraded to a Lumia 730, which to date I adore. It is for me the best phone ever! The only place where it lacked would be the storage. Then I jumped shipped again to Android and am now using a Redmi 4x. So the point behind me going through my phone purchasing history is to show, that you do not need to break the bank or sel...

Do we need Virtual Assistant?

It is something which I stress over and over again. I live in Bangladesh, a small country in Asia. So, it is only natural for tech companies to not think about us when launching new services. Virtual Assistants are taking over the world. Assistants like Google Assistant, Siri, Alexa and Cortana are said to be super helpful in your day to day life. YouTube reviewers adore them and recommend them for your smart home. What the reviewers don't take into account is that all those helpful assistants only properly work in the US. Here in Bangladesh, all these assistants can do is tell the weather and call or text contacts. These smart and intelligent assistants don't even understand our accents. Hence the second feature for call or texting is a hit and miss. Hence, I have uninstalled the Google app from my phone. I do not require to allow Google to spy on me, only so that assistant can tell me the weather. Google and other companies are in simple words ripping us off. We ...

I switched to the green side

I am a hardcore OneNote user, but the complex and clunky and unintuitive Android app for OneNote has forced me to look elsewhere in search for a new digital notebook. And I will have to admit, I am quite impressed with the EverNote App for Android. It seems to be created to be used on small screens. Which is great for me, because I love compact phones and use one. In terms of feature both seem to be on equal footing. Like OneNote, EverNote allows me to create notebooks and then tag each note to a specific category. The tagging feature seems really useful and should help me to be better organized! And if that was not enough, EverNote, like it's counterpart, gives its users plenty of text formatting option. However, it is not all glory. EverNote, unlike OneNote, is a freemium App. That means extra features will be made available to the user if the user decides to pay a subscription fee. The free model is really limiting. As it only allows the user to only upload 60mb ...

MIUI 9 is really good?

Xiaomi like every Chinese Android OEM has modified the Android OS to make it look and feel like an IOS. However, things are slowly starting to change. MIUI 9 continuation on Xiaomi’s journey to differentiate itself from the competition and it also takes some big steps towards a move away from the IOS aesthetics! MIUI 9, at least on my phone is on Android 7.1.2, and for the first time ever! Xiaomi gives us all the features in the latest and greatest version of Android and then adds a few touches of their own. It adds a completely new icon design, which are big improvements over the IOS esque icons of the previous version of MIUI. Not only that there are plenty of goodies in this feature-packed new update! Split mode makes its first appearance on MIUI, it allows you to use multiple apps at the same time. And I will admit to not using it. But, it feels good to have it handy if I need. The feature which I use the most could also be the most minor change in the update. It ...
