Star Trek meets Aliens and Predators

There was a new episode of Star Trek this week! So, I watched it as soon as I got my hands on it!
This episode like the first one had a shaky start. It starts off with a time leap! Which is the sign of a downturn approaches? But, Star Trek really surprised me.

We will never know what happened in the 6 months after the death of Commander Ghenzhou. And what was Burnham up to after her death. Those 6 months are skipped by the show and we have introduced to Burnham again, while she is being transported to a new prison. On the way, however, we see her pilot die and she and the rest of the prisoners are rescued by SS Discovery. Star Trek Discovery is the name of the show and we get to see it in the third episode!
The story takes its time to get going. It does get to go when we see Burnham being recruited by the Captain of the Discovery on a rescue mission on another ship called Glenn. Weird name for a ship? Hell yes! But, once they are one Glenn the show's tone takes a sharp turn! It felt like I was watching an Aliens movie. Gone were the bright colours, we were now in a pitch black ship. With a predator like a creature on the loose. This creature is capable of easily killing a Klingon.

Telling you more about the story would spoil the whole episode for you. But, I can tell you this, this episode is a return to quality for Star Trek. The quality which we saw in the first episode. Now all I can hope is for the quality to continue.

Birds of Prey: Feminism done right

While the world is at a standstill due to the Novel CoronaVirus, I finally got time to return to watching movies and series. The first movie I saw? Birds of Prey and how I regret missing out on this in the cinemas. The movie is great! It is a self-aware, fourth-wall-breaking joy ride. It paints a new picture of Gotham city from the perspective of Harley Quinn and I love this vibrant new Gotham! The movie kicks off with our protagonist Harley, who has recently broken up with the Joker. She is trying to get by all alone and prove herself to the world. The plot of the movie revolves around Bertinelli's fortune, the key to which is in a diamond. Roman Stonis aka The Black Mask is behind the killing of the Bertinelli's’ and now wants their fortune. He hires Harley to recover the diamond and viola! We have ourselves a popcorn crunching, the edge of your seat, jaw-dropping female-led action movie! All the characters were spot on, be it Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn or my second fa...

Spiderman: Homerun

The third reboot of the Spiderman franchise is old news. So is the fact that it was a huge success, but I only got to watch it tonight, Now that I am done watching it, I am going to talk about it. Spiderman homecoming is a good movie. It has a simple story, stellar cast and a director who knows what he is doing. At its core, Spiderman homecoming is a simple coming of age teen flick. And that is what makes Homecoming so good! The movie has very little faults, so let’s get them out of the way first. It lacked action and the soundtrack was average. Done these are my gripes with the movie. Now let’s talk about the good stuff. The movie really fleshes out the characters . Supporting characters like Ned get a lot more screen time then they did on Spiderman’s last outing. Tom Holland is perfectly cast as the web-slinger and for me, he rivals Toby for the best Actor to portray Spidey! For the first time, Spiderman is an actual teen! He has school to deal with and his aunt is not hi...
