What I think of the Fall Creators Update

Microsoft recently updated Windows 10 and dubbed it the “Fall Creators Update”. And I do not know why they are calling it that! Because it is a small update for everyone! And below are the new features which I found out by myself.

The Update focuses on UI tweaks and has introduced the new design language from Microsoft being called Fluent Design. Fluent design won't overhaul the complete Operating System. What it does is add delightful minor touches to the OS, to make it feel more. I personally love the design move being dubbed “Acrylic”, it adds subtle transparency to the Apps, making them look gorgeous. The effect is quite similar to that found in Windows 7. The redesign is still not complete and certain segments of the OS is void of Fluent Design.

The other big visible change for the users would be the highly anticipated My People hub. Which I will admit did not live up to the hype! The hub lacks any third party support to date and only has Mail and Skype support. So, if you are a heavy Skype user, you will love people hub. The hub, however, feels a little hollow and needs tweaking to further blend with Windows 10.

However, the biggest feature in this update for me would be the return of placeholders! I have been holding my breath in patience for the return of this feature! And now it is back and is being called “File on demand”. No longer will you need to download your full OneDrive library to sync with your PC. It shows all your files and will allow you to download only the files you need. I adored this feature in Windows 8.1 and am now happy to see it finally return, with major improvements.

The rest of the changes are both important and small. The ability to allocate certain amount of bandwidth to Windows Update, the ability to pin websites to the taskbar for quick access with Edge, under the hood improvements, the ability to call an emoji keyboard by pressing the Windows key and (.) key together, the performance slider to help improve battery life in Laptops, story remix! Improved storage sense, phone linking with Android and IOS allowing you to open web pages from those devices, copy text and send photos to your PC wirelessly and seamlessly are welcome additions!

To conclude I will say that the Fall Creators Update is a minor one. However, it is a major one, which adds several little features to make Windows easy to use and feel more cohesive and complete all-around. It is a must-have update, if not for the features, then for the security improvements which it brings with it! So, update now!

Flagships no longer required?

The last time I used a flagship phone, was way back in 2013 and it was the Galaxy S4. The Exynos variant to be exact, back in 2013 Exynos was not cool. It was miles behind its Snapdragon counterpart and it was visible. My experience with the S4 was horrible. So horrible, that in fact, I haven't had the courage to purchase another Flagship since then on. After that, I switched boat and jumped to the WindowsPhone clad. My first taste of WindowsPhone was from a Lumia 520. The cheapest WindowsPhone! But, the performance at times was better than my less than a year old flagship Galaxy. WindowsPhone was fluid even on extreme budget hardware. Later on, I upgraded to a Lumia 730, which to date I adore. It is for me the best phone ever! The only place where it lacked would be the storage. Then I jumped shipped again to Android and am now using a Redmi 4x. So the point behind me going through my phone purchasing history is to show, that you do not need to break the bank or sel...
